Located at the prominent intersection of N Clark Street and N Ridge Avenue, the building's Renaissance palazzo-inspired architecture is a testament to its rich past. Named "The Mabel" after the sister of Maybelline's founder, the structure holds a unique place in Chicago's history. This renovation seeks to honor this legacy while breathing new life into the space. The first floor has been thoughtfully redesigned to introduce 17 modern residential apartments to the corner commercial space, each offering a unique blend of historical charm and contemporary comfort. Communal landscaping in the central courtyard will serve as the heart of the community, providing a serene outdoor space for residents to gather and relax.
The building's exterior will also be revitalized. New windows and wood slat accent screens will replace portions of the existing storefronts, creating a harmonious blend of old and new. This adaptive reuse project exemplifies the potential of historic buildings to evolve and meet the needs of contemporary urban life. By preserving the architectural integrity of the former Maybelline Headquarters while introducing modern amenities and residential spaces, the project ensures that "The Mabel" will continue to be a vital part of the Edgewater neighborhood for generations to come.
